Health First Colorado’s Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) is suspending MedRide, a non-emergent medical transportation (NEMT) effective Friday.
Representatives say the notice of suspension letter was sent to MedRide on Jan. 31 and the Corrective Action Plan (CAP) was agreed upon by both HCPF and MedRide in early Nov.
The Notice of Suspension claims that MedRide is involved in an alleged and ongoing organized fraud scheme.
The CAP alleges that the Department found “significant deficiencies,” including missing member signatures, missing dates and times, claim forms that were missing up to three columns due to poor scanning and more in nearly every MedRide claim.
Representatives said HCPF previously gave MedRide opportunities and extensions to “come into compliance and address identified concerns,” and they have not done so.
Health First Colorado members who have used MedRide in the past month have been notified about the suspension and directed to the Companie’s website for a listing of providers by county, according to Health First representatives.
Members can also call the Health First Colorado Member Call Center at 800-221-3943 for help locating another provider, Health First representatives say.
“Our members’ safety is of paramount importance to HCPF,” representatives said. “We must ensure that our members have the assistance they need to get to their appointments, and we must ensure they are transported safely with reliable drivers and safe vehicles.”
When accessing the MedRide website, a pop-up appears saying “Starting Friday morning, February 7, we are temporarily unable to provide transportation for Medicaid patients. We are deeply sorry for this inconvenience, and we are currently working closely with the state to resolve this issue. We will resume ride services as soon as possible. Please call (1-800-221-3943) if you have any questions.”
11 News has reached out to MedRide for comment. As of this article’s last update, they have not responded.
